quadriga
(Latin quadri- = four, and iugum = yoke) A chariot drawn by four horses. Actually, the
word quadriga may refer to the chariot alone, the four horses without it, or the combination of both. It was
used in races at the Olympic Games and other contests especially in the Roman
period. In ancient Greek mythology Helios drives his quadriga across the sky, delivering
daylight.
