GREECE ATTICA SARONIC ISLANDS TROIZEN

2024-10-28

Excavations in Troizen were carried out in the 1890's by the French School of Archaeology led by Philippe Legrand, and the German Archaeological Institute under Gabriel Welter after 1932. In recent years the Greek archaeologist Maria Giannopoulou has conducted extensive investigations and has excavated some tombs. Today there are several ruins on the site, but it's not thoroughly excavated. The site is little known, and chances are that you're the only visitor. During my visit in September 2024 I actually missed all the Classical ruins because of poor signage or simply because the few remains were thoroughly overgrown.
