GREECE PELOPONNESE MESSINIA PYLOS TOWN

The central square in Pylos is called Platía ton Trión Navárkhon ("Square of the Three Admirals") after the three commanders of the victorious allied fleet in the Battle of Navarino - the British Admiral Sir Edward Codrington (below left), the French Admiral de Rigny (below center), and the Russian Count von Heyden (below right). They are commemorated by an obelisk-like monument (above right).

Above: On one side of the platia is a refreshing fountain. - Below right: When you leave Pylos in the direction of Methoni, passing the Neokastro, you see the impressive "kamares" (arches), remains of a Turkish aqueduct.
