The Hexamilion wall at this point consists of two parts: the western section (all pictures above) follows a more or less East-West direction for about 60 m, and then there is a sharp bend to the South (pictures below). |

Below: Prominent at the point where the wall changes its direction to the South are the remains of a rectangular tower, about 4 x 4 m, that overlooks the valley to the East. Its blocks especially at the corners are significantly more carefully worked than those of the joining walls. |

Below: There are indications that the Hexamilion did not head straight to the shore from position 4 on my map but turned to the south to link to a fortification placed there at the shore. If this is so then the mysterious wall I stumbled across at the southern end of a service station (section 6) could be part of the Hexamilion. Its position would fit as well as the East-West orientation but without archaeological evidence nothing more can be said. |
