Above and below: The famous stone with the "Erastus Inscription", found in 1929. It reads: "ERASTUS PRO AEDILITATE S(ua) P(ecunia) STRAVIT" or "Paved by Erastus at his own expense in return for his Aedileship." The letters were to be laid out with bronze. - It is quite probable that this aedilis (financial manager of the city) is the same Erastus mentioned by Apostle Paul as sending greetings to the church at Rome (Rom 16:23). If so, Paul's influence apparently extended to wealthy and influential Roman citizens of Corinth. |

Below: Next to the organized site and seldom noticed by any visitor lie the remains of the Odeion. It was erected in the first century AD and elaborately adorned in the times of Herodes Atticus ca. 175 AD. The theatre-like building was used for speeches and musical performances. |
