Tomb 7

location chamber tomb 7 chamber tomb 7

Chamber tomb 7 has a 9.5 m long dromos with inclined walls. The tomb had been plundered in the 1970's but a burial pit west of the stomion escaped the notice of the grave robbers. It contained extremely precious grave goods and their great similarity with the items of the 'Aidonia treasure' was the basis for their repatriation. It is assumed that at least the largest part of the 'Aidonia treasure' came from this tomb 7.

Above right: Tomb number 8 in the foreground, with tomb number 7 on the right. - A 10 m long dromos leads to the entrance of chamber tomb 8, which was found robbed. The few goods that the grave robbers left behind have supported the notion that the offerings were similarily valuable as those in tomb 7. It is assumed that they are still in the hands of a collector and will sometime appear on the illegal market.

chamber tomb 8

The carefully worked thalamos of chamber tomb 8 looks like the interior of a Mycenaean house with gable roof. It all points to a high prestige of the persons buried here.
