GREECE PELOPONNESE ARGOLIS PROSYMNA KLISOURA

The "Berbati gorge" connects Prosymna with the western Argolis. Within the gorge 36 caves and rock shelters (of which nine had archaeological remains) have been identified, the "Klisoura caves". They show archaeological layers from the Middle Paleolithic to the Neolithic era. Klisoura Cave 1 also produced the earliest evidence for clay hearths in ground layers associated with a prehistoric culture known as the Aurignacian, c. 34 000-23 000 years BP.
