Above right and below: On several terraces below the West Gate is a complex of rooms, probably workshops. They were destroyed by a large conflagration, probably caused by an earthquake striking Midea at the end of the 13th century BC. |

Below: The postern gate closely resembles similar constructions in Mycenae and Tiryns. It is a narrow passage ("syrinx") running through the thickness of the west section of the fortification wall, which was used as a sally port, a concealed passage providing an escape in times of danger or an assault exit for defending the acropolis. |
