Above and below: The excavations overseen by Professor T.W. Jacobsen of Indiana University from 1967 until 1976 faced the problem that large parts of the cave have collapsed. But still, the deepest sounding in the cave is a trench with over 11 meters of stratified living debris.

Above and below: Walls of small stones piled up in front of niches in the cave's side walls are remains of the early habitation.
