At the centre of the village of Plataniti, just next to the road and not to be missed, an important Byzantine monument survives: the small elegant church of the Transfiguration of Christ, Metamórphosis Sotíros. It is a tiny (5,4 x 5,9 m) single-spaced, cross-shaped, domed church of the quite rare "compact" type, erected in the first half of the 12th century. |

The walls are built according to the Middle Byzantine cloisonné system on its upper part, while on the lower parts rumble masonry was used, in parts with other architectural members in secondary use, including a remarkable column shaft. |
