The new Archaeological Museum of Patras was designed by Theofanis Bobotis and opened in 2009. Its spectacular architecture that I find very convincing combines different materials - metal, stone, wood - on the façade.

One element is a spherical dome of titanium above an artificial pool, reminding of the strategic location of Patras at the sea.

On the 8000 m2 of the exhibition halls objects are presented from 3000 BC until the 6th century AD. - Above left: Bronze Age sites of western Achaia from where finds are in the museum. - Above right: Strainer, with deep bowl and one handle. Katarraktis, Middle Helladic Period (early 17th century BC). - Below: Large pithoid amphora with four handles and a mastoid end for the transportation and preservation of liquids. It is an example of matt-painted pottery and one of the biggest Achaean vases of the Middle Helladic Period. It was discovered at Katarraktis (Drakotrypa) and dates from the end of the 18th century BC.
