Goumenissa is a small village in central Achaia, belonging to the Municipal District of Kalavryta. It is a quiet place but there are traces of habitation since ancient times. - At the southern end of the village is a quite unknown Bronze Age cemetery, for which I could find only few information. In 1925-27 Nikolaos Kyparissis excavated 25 chamber tombs here, some more were discovered later. |

The medium-sized chamber tombs of which I found about a dozen, follow the typical Mycenaean design of dromos, doorway (stomion) and burial chamber (thalamos). (For more information about Mycenaean burials see: here.) Some of the roofs have collapsed, but other tombs are intact. They are dated to MH-LH IIIC. |
