A particularly beautiful corner of "Fair Emathia" (Homer, Iliad XIV, 226), a place of natural and clear springs, woods, small caves and a lush vegetation on the lower steps of Mount Vermion, about 1 kilometre from Naoussa, was the ideal place of residence and worship of the nymphs. The site was originally used as a poros stone quarry, but in the second half of the 4th century BC the quarry was reshaped and reorganized by a small portico, adding to the place clear characteristics of a rural sanctuary. |
