Tomb of the Palmettes Tomb of the Palmettes

The tomb's narrow antechamber, which visitors unfortunately are not allowed to enter, shows a painting on its ceiling, from which the name of the tomb is derived: palmettes and flowers alternating with water-lilies on a blue-green background, as if floating on the surface of a pond.

Below left: Just one of the beautiful details of the façade. - Below right: The antechamber was separated by the burial chamber by a marble double door, 3.50 metres high and 0.90 metres wide, with relief motifs. The door has fallen into the main chamber where the walls were painted in imitation of marble revetment, black in their lower part and red in their upper part, the two colours being divided by a white band. On the right side of the chamber is a stone base, upon which stood the box or larnax with the bones of the deceased.
