The Macedonian 'Tomb of the Palmettes', sometimes also called 'Tomb of the Flowers', one of the most magnificent and best preserved monuments of ancient Mieza, was excavated in 1971 after an illegal digging. The tomb consists of two barrel-vaulted chambers and a temple-shaped façade with four engaged Ionic columns. After the burial of the deceased and the completion of the customary funerary rites this subterranean funerary monument was covered by a tumulus over 2.50 metres high and 15-17 metres in diameter. |

Impressive is the colourful façade of the tomb and the prominent antefixes. |

The triangular pediment of the façade shows the depiction of a mature man with grey hair and a woman who rests her chin on her right hand. The figures are turned to each other and are half-reclining as at a banquet. Unfortunately, due to the limited space in the protective shelter, the painting can not be seen quite well from below. |
