Just outside the modern village of Epano Zakros (or: Ano Zakros for "Upper Zakros" or just Zakros) are the remains of a minoan "villa" or country house. It is dated to the Neopalatial period (LM I, ca. 1500 BC). In 1965, a wine press (now exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Sitia) was found in the ruins, quite similar to the ones still used today in the area. |
