Above and below: The Theatral Area northwest of the Palace is a paved area of 10 x 13 m, sourrounded by the typical L-shaped area of steps. It offered room for about 500 people, which is not very much for the large palace and the town.

Below left: The palace seen from the theatrical area.

Below right: The Royal Road in the northwest of the palace site, one of the oldest and best preserved ancient roads in Europe. Originally it was level with the Minoan town through which it passed and which surrounded the palace.
