Where the Sacred Way climbs to the first right turn stands the conspicious Treasury of the Athenians. Conspicious because it is the only more or less intact building within the temenos. For its reconstruction in the beginning of the 20th century, more than 80% of the original blocks of stone could be retrieved and put back into their places. The Athenians erected this treasury not much later than 390 BC to commemorate their historic victory over the Persians at Marathon. |

The building is Doric distyle in antis (two columns). The figures of the frieze with triglyphs and metopes are casts (originals in the local museum), but what is original are the more than 150 ancient inscriptions on the walls of the treasury. |
