GREECE PELOPONNESE KORINTHIA PERACHORA HERAION

The ruins of the famous sanctuary of Hera are situated on Cape Malagavi (or: Iréo), North-West of Loutraki and beyond Perachora. Driving there through the green landscape with forests of cypress and pine trees amidst olive groves has its own appeal. And then, before reaching the cape, there is the beautiful Lake of Vougliameni or "Blue Lake".

Above and below: Before reaching the actual sanctuary there are the remains of the ancient fountain of the Heraion just next to the road. Judging from the architectural remains this must have been a quite elaborate construction.
