Views to the Mycenaean site of Kalamianos in the distance on the left. Unfortunately I did not know of this site during my stay at Korfos in 2012. - Although the architectural remains on the seaside slope above the cape of Akrotirio Trelli were clearly visible due to soil erosion and tectonic subsidence, the site was only discovered as late as 2001 (hence my lack of information in 2012). The investigations of 2007-2009 then revealed a Bronze Age town with the foundations and walls of more than 60 buildings covering an area of 8 hectares. Probably Kalamianos was Mycenae's main harbor on the Saronic Gulf in the 13th century BC, abandoned around 1200 BC.

During my short visit in September 2019 I had the necessary information, but there was no easy access. The seaside road ends at private fenced properties and from the landward side you can only come there by foot (which I did not prefer). - Above left: Looking in the direction of ancient Kalamianos from where the public road ends. - Above right: A view from there to modern Korfos.

Below: But even if you don't manage to reach the ancient remains of Kalamianos there is a lot to enjoy in Korfos, for example in one of the seaside tavernas.
