GREECE PELOPONNESE ELEIA SAMIKON ACROPOLIS

Inside the walls remains of many buildings are found. Recently, a large public building with formerly column-supported roof has been discovered. A number of large cisterns secured the water supply.

Ancient Samia participated in the struggle of the Triphylian cities for independence from Eleian domination. In 244 BC, the city fell to the general of the Achaian Federation, Polysperchon, who used the acropolis as a base for his operations against the Arcadians.

Samia was inhabited until the Roman period, but Pausanias saw it already destroyed in the 2nd century AD.
