The bastion of "Pende Adelphia", or Five Brothers, owes its name to the five cannons, all of the same size, that reinforced together with the installations on Bourtzi islet the defences of the harbour of Nafplio. It is the only bastion to escape demolition and to survive to the present day. The five cannons bear various inscriptions together with the Venetian winged lion and various dates of the 17th century.
