From the harbour of Nafplion you have a good view of the islet of Bourtzi, fortified in 1471 by the Venetians and later furnished with an octogonal tower. A 450 m long chain connected the islet with Akronafplion and thus blocked the entrance to the harbour. Formerly it was the home of the executioners who were not tolerated in the town, then until 1910 a hotel. - Because of restoration works it is currently (2022) not possible to access the islet but a boat trip shows you around.
