GR PELOPONNESE ARCADIA MANTINEIA GOURTSOULI

Just a kilometer or so north of the archaeological site of Mantineia is the hill of Gourtsouli, the site of ancient Mantineia in prehistorical times. Called Ptolis in the Archaic Period it was the central sacred location for the people of Mantineia, who were still living in villages in the plain that surround the hill. In the 7th cntury BC a temple was built here and later it was the administrative center of Mantineia.

On top of the hill I could only find very few remains of what might be ancient. - Below: views from the acropolis to the North, but not much of ancient Mantineia can be seen except the theatre.
