Between Kopanos and Lefkadia, outside the city walls of ancient Mieza, lies the site of the gymnasium, the foundation of which dates back to the reign of Philip II (359-336 BC). Together with the theatre it must have been a monumental complex of 30,000 square metres, the two-storey buildings being organized around a peristyle courtyard. Of this, there is not much to see at the moment but some nondescript fundaments. On the other hand there are recent (2025) excavations on a wide field and a large pile of what looks like roof-tiles, so we can be curious what more will be unearthed. |

Near the gymnasium is the ancient theatre of Mieza, accidentally discovered in 1992 on a natural slope. Dated to the 2nd century BC, it has a cavea of fifteen rows of seats carved in the rock, with some rows unfittingly of modern construction. The skene complex, however, is only preserved in a very poor condition. |
