the Hot Springs |

A few hundred meters north of the memorial on the east side of the modern road - parallel to the highway that connects the North to Central and Southern Greece - are the abundant hot springs that gave the pass its name (Thermopylai = "hot springs"). The hot water contains carbonic acid, lime, salt, and sulphur and is said to cure especially skin diseases. The stink is quite remarkable. |
