Chalkis Archaeological Museum

The old-fashioned Archaeological Museum of Chalkis is housed in a building from the early 20th century and brings together findings from all over the island of Evvia. It is subdivided in three "rooms" which are actually in one hall. The exhibits are arranged chronologically, but explanations are sometimes only in Greek or missing altogether. - Below left: Pyxis, bones and shells. - Below right: Prehistoric sherds.

Above and below: Marble figurines that are supposed to be Early Helladic (third millenium BC) but appear to me very Cycladic - which implies extensive sea-faring trade already in this period.
