As you enter Methana, the main city of the peninsula, you will first notice the smell of rotten eggs as you pass the open-air baths of the Thermal Spa. The typical pale-blue water contains a chemical combination of odourless methane (as Methana gave its name to this gas) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S). Its therapeutical effects for people suffering from arthritis, rheumatism, skin diseases, and neurological problems are esteemed since antiquity. |

The sea front of Methana is quite empty in off-season and as night falls you can have a delicious traditional dish in one of the small tavernas. |
